AmericanTheater Web launched over the Labor Day weekend of 1998. Frustrated by incomplete listings on other sites and incomprehensible searches in major engines, founder Andy Propst wanted to create a site that would allow theater professionals and theatergoers to find information quickly about theaters throughout the United States.
Andy's background includes working in a variety of roles in community, non-profit and commercial theater. AmericanTheater Web captures his commitment to performing arts throughout the country and has grown enormously since its inception.
Today, AmericanTheater Web is not just a site that links to theaters web sites. It is becoming a community dedicated to providing a home on the Web to all people interested in theater. Our newest incarnation (October 2000), marks a number of milestones for AmericanTheater Web. We now have nearly 2,500 theaters listed. The database is fully integrated into the site so that information is instantly available to users as it is received by ATW or posted by the community members. Our new auction and secure sales capabilities will allow for theaters that do not have e-commerce capaibilities to enter the 21st century by selling tickets and merchandise through ATW. We've streamed-line the announcement features and enhanced our Chat capabliities. We are hopeful that community members will email us if they are interested in moderating disucssions in the chat or callboard areas. All of this is being done with the generous guidance and support of individuals throughout the theatrical community.
We hope you enjoy your visit to AmericanTheater Web and please email us with any suggestions or comments on how we can expand the site and our services.
