Prophetic Brit(s)

He makes the case for Caryl Churchill's Far Away, written in early 2001 and seen in New York in 2002 (and in a stark, effective production I saw in L.A. in 2004), as the defining work of the Bush years:

Of Matzoh Balls, Lawyers and Fringe Theatre Artists
I'm often amazed at the stealthiness and cutthroat efficiency of dead artists' estates. Even the most little-known entertainers seem to have incredibly efficient spy networks working for them beyond the grave and even elementary schools and fringe theatres aren't safe from the eagle eyes of lawyers

See Mickey, be Billy?
The most spectacular kid's part on Broadway at the moment is the title role in Billy Elliot the Musical. The boy who plays young Billy, a kid from a British mining town who dreams of ballet stardom, has to dance (ballet, tap, street dancing), act (with an accent), sing and be able to handle gymnastics.

Plays v. Playwrights
Isaac, as per usual, has a good thing going: list the 9 most influential plays of the 20th Century. As usual, I've chimed in, but it brought up an interesting question for me. Rather than hijack his thread, I'd figure I'd bring it over here. It is my blog, after all.
