Playwright and screenwriter Horton Foote, who movingly portrayed the broken dreams of common people in ''The Trip to Bountiful,'' ''Tender Mercies'' and his Oscar-winning screen adaptation of ''To Kill a Mockingbird,'' died Wednesday in Connecticut, Paul Marte, a spokesman for Hartford Stage, said. He was 92.

I can't believe it. Horton Foote, the 92-year-old playwright whose works include "The Young Man from Atlanta," "The Trip to Bountiful" and most recently "Dividing the Estate" died at his Hartford, CT home on March 4. Hartford Stage and the Signature Theatre Company are still set to co-produce the world premiere of his "Orphans' Home Cycle" next season.
