Hearing the cherished “I believe!” and seeing yourself on the list of students is the dream of any aspiring actor. But the doors of theater universities are not open to everyone. In addition to a high level of culture, reading and erudition at the entrance exams, the applicant shows an individual program. Expectations of teachers are high, so it is advisable to prepare in advance.

Preparing for admission to a drama school or university is a painstaking work that takes a lot of time and effort. The actor-to-be will have to go through a large number of exam steps. Specialized training or drama schools can help demonstrate a high level of skill. Make sure your teachers have the appropriate training before you attend.

An example program for entering a theater school:

3 versatile excerpts from prose works;
several poems;
2-3 fables;
dance.

Do not choose complex voluminous works or technically difficult etudes. It is better to choose a text passage/dance piece with an emphasis on emotion. Topics are free, comedic or dramatic subjects. Love lyrics without philosophical overtones are welcome in entrance exams.

At the preparatory classes in the theater school developed two types of programs:

General – humanities disciplines and introduction to acting;
profile – the study of stage speech, vocal and techniques for immersion into the image.

Any training involves an optional cultural program – trips to museums and theaters, painting exhibitions, festivals, and author’s readings. And practical activities – participation in theatrical contests and productions.

What to prepare for
For passing the creative competition. Choose your repertoire carefully. Optimal – when the character finds an internal response.

Exercises for the development of stage skills:

On expressiveness. Collectively act out a small scene illustrating a proverb.
For imagination development. While taking a walk or having coffee in a cafe, think up a story of strangers encountered. It is desirable to find a rationale for each detail of their clothing and appearance. The second stage, taking into account the character’s life circumstances, is to reflect on his or her character and personal history. As an example, the man, who a second ago lost all his savings in the casino.
Practice intonation. Say any general phrase you like a few times, a la “How great we’re all here!” on behalf of a famous artist, a little girl, a tired mom, a successful businessman, and an elderly person.

It is advisable to prepare for admission several years in advance. Make the text your own, do not turn the selected fragment into a banal recitation of words. Even with professionals, the shrinkage of the text after rehearsals takes at least two weeks. And an applicant is not yet an actor.
